RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) Glenhuntly Health Clinc Melbourne

When icing an injury it is important to cool the injured area, not freeze it.
Place some ice or packet of frozen peas in a wet towel and apply to the area for between 10-12 minutes.
Repeat 2 – 3 x per day for 1st 3 days after injury.
Icing to peripheral joints (foot, ankle, knee, hip, hand, wrist, elbow & shoulder) is effective.
Remember R I C E (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) can still be effective for up to 72 hrs.
Icing to spinal back and neck regions following injury is not recommended.
